Marine steel can be divided into ship structural steel and boiler, pressure vessel, and mechanical structural steel.
Ship Structural Steel
All ship structural steel must be produced by steel mills approved by classification societies, and products that pass inspection should bear the classification society's mark. Steel can be smelted using open-hearth furnaces, electric furnaces, or basic oxygen converters. Other methods require special approval from the classification society. The produced steel must undergo specified tests, including chemical composition analysis and physical tests such as tensile, cold bending, and impact tests.
Ship Structural Field Stubborn Materials are divided into general strength ship structural steel and high strength ship structural steel based on chemical composition and performance.
General strength ship structural steel
General strength ship structural steel is the former ship carbon steel, divided into four grades: A, B, D, and E. A is boiling steel, B is calming steel, D and E are full calming fine grain (aluminum treatment) steel, and the manganese content in E steel is higher than that in D steel, while the carbon content is lower than that in D steel.
High-strength ship structural steel. High-strength ship structural steel is also called ship low alloy steel.
Due to the addition of a small amount of manganese, niobium, vanadium, aluminum, and silicon alloy elements on the basis of general strength ship structural steel, high-strength ship structural steel has better indicators such as strength, mechanical properties, weldability, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. Although the price of steel itself is expensive, it has various properties. Reduce the amount of steel used in ship construction, reduce the weight of the ship's structure, reduce shipbuilding costs, and finally, the economic indicators are close to general strength ship structural steel.
