Ding Testing & Inspection: Tank Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), The Robust Shield Ensuring Tank Safety
Tank non-destructive testing (NDT) is a detection technology that does not damage the tank structure and is used to assess its integrity and safety. Ding Testing & Inspection offers a range of NDT services for tanks, including magnetic particle testing, penetrant testing, ultrasonic testing, and radiographic testing, all aimed at ensuring the safety and reliability of tanks.
Service Introduction
Tanks are containers for storing oil products and are one of the main facilities in the storage and transportation systems of oil depots. For a long time, many in-service tanks in China have had varying degrees of defects such as cracks and corrosion. Poor management during use has led to frequent safety accidents, causing equipment damage and casualties. Therefore, conducting non-destructive testing on in-service tanks is of great significance.

Non-Destructive Testing Methods
The commonly used NDT methods in tank construction are four conventional methods: radiographic testing, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, and penetrant testing. The choice of method depends on the type, size, orientation, and location of the defect, as well as the shape, size, welding position, and material of the tank component being inspected.
Radiographic Testing | This method takes advantage of the characteristic that rays will be absorbed and scattered when passing through an object. When there are defects in the component being tested, or when the film density image of the ray passing through the defective area is different from that of the non-defective area, the type, quantity, and size of the defects can be determined based on the film density image. |
Ultrasonic Testing | Widely used in industrial non-destructive testing, this method detects defects by utilizing the principle that different acoustic impedances at heterogeneous interfaces cause reflection of sound waves. |
Magnetic Particle Testing | The principle is that when a workpiece is magnetized, a leakage magnetic field will form at the location of surface or near-surface defects. This leakage magnetic field will attract and gather magnetic particles applied during the testing process, thus revealing the defects. |
Penetrant Testing | The basic principle is that the penetrant enters surface-opening defects in the workpiece due to its wetting action and capillary phenomenon, and is then adsorbed and imaged. |
